[Exchange 2010 SP1] Quotas and Retention Policies
I am tinkering with the deployment of Archive Mailboxes in my Exchange 2010 SP1 environment. What I am looking to do is set quotas on users' primary mailboxes (of say 1GB) and after the mailbox has reached that quota limit, Exchange will move the oldest messages to the users Archive Mailbox until the primary mailbox is under the quota. In looking at retention tags and policies, this does not seem like something that Exchange can do for me. Am I correct in this assumption? And if so, is there some other way that I can make this happen? Or am I just stuck with moving messages to archive that are over XXX number of days? Thanks, -Marc

Your assumption is correct, retention tags/policies are based on age of an item and will not "activate" based on the size of a mailbox.Tim Harrington | MVP: Exchange | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010, MCITP: Server 2008, MCTS: OCS | Blog: http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com | Twitter: @twharrington
